Last weekend I did a concert with Oai Star and Massilia Sound System for the opening ceremony of a Skistation in the High Alpes called Vars. The concert took place outside in -7c, at 1890meters altitude wich was pretty intense. During theese conditions I was afraid of having some hardware problems but it got abit worse when it started snowing during the soundchecks. Something that wasnt announced by the weatherservice afaik.

It was the nasty kind of cold powdersnow that, thanks to the wind, got inside everything. Here you can see JC, who often mixes and masters Data Airlines releases, but this time was doing the onstage monitor mix to the right, covering up gear and my position on stage with a light powder of snow on it.

Not an everyday situation at work for us, spite the cold we were excited. But my gear started to break down on me. The Atari ran like a clockwork but my Alesis filters and midicontrollers started to act up.

Photo from Dj Kayaliks position onstage, the sound and light guys tent, the skilifts and resorthotels in the background.
Powder snow on vinyls is obviously not that cool, neither is snow in the faders on the mixer, even if its a Rane =)

This is where the skilift took us. Nice view on the lake of Serre Poncon.

More photos of the public. More than 2000 ppl came out to battle the weather and get some piece of the action. And I hope more skistations take up this way of “warming up” for the season to come. Id love to redo it.

Spite the difficult conditions, the concert went well, DJ Kayalik did a really good job on the wax even though the snow made it difficult for him, and the only gear that broke down during the concert was the gameboys, who couldnt take the cold, they instantly errorscreened on startup or didnt want to start at all. Guess Rolemodel have a good answer to why =) But the Atari worked fine, I bet an amiga500 wouldnt have been able to do that! I heard there are videos avalible from the evening, ill repost them in this thread when theyll get to me.
